Is this kid dysfunctional?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070601/ap_o...

A couple of things to point out here. The mother has put the kid together so that he kind of looks like her. Also, just because your kid is smart and in a spelling bee, do you have to comb his hair like that can't? Does he have to wear a Dilbert shirt (looks like he should have a pocket protector)?

Listen, homeschool parents - maybe you ought to take some time out to teach your kids social skills and make them well-rounded and not just hyper advanced in their academics. I am all for people teaching their kids to be ahead of the curve, but there are people out there who are ahead of the curve in academics, and also play a sport and [gasp] go to a movie now and again with a girl.........

I watched this young man on the TV this morning as well. Within about a minute I had him pegged. I have known other people who are just like he is. The problem is that he is suffering from extreme intelligence! Often these people appear retarded to the rest of us. They just are not the same. Many of them are not very clean. It just isn't important to them. They don't care about what they look like. They never quite fit in and they don't care to either. Its just the way they are. Is he dysfunctional, not in the typical way.

Aw, I know what you mean. Its kind of sad, parents that pushes their children to accomplish excessively like this gives me the impression that these children were never children once.

now i can see parents pushing for good grades and such when its a class that will possibly make your child more money in the future. but i cant think of the ocasion that it would be helpful to know the polish word for a polish folk dance. i just realy dont see that coming in handy on wall st.

You are being unfair and judgmental. I have 5 kids and they all like to dress differently and they all are different academically. My 13 year old is great athlete and has been said one of the best soccer players in the area yet he loves the disovery channel and science. He prefer not wear pants that show his backside or have long hair like the other kids on his own team. Guess what he was homeschooled for a year and loved it and was still very social. I was the one who didnt like homeschooling, my kids loved it and learned alot but it just was not for me. I admire those parents who do sacrifice alot to homeschool is clearly this child is getting a good education. I do have friends who homeschool whose kids are not socialized but what this kid wears should say nothing about his socialization skills. Alot of PS kids dress exactly like him and comb there hair like he does. I think many are just jealous because homeschool kids keep winning. I am not saying it is right for everyone or every child but there are many homeschooled children out there that are socially and academically acceptable. My kids go to public school and they dont have girlfriends yet, go to the movies now and then like a couple of times a year but not with girls. 2 of my kids play sports year round 2 don't, and btw when my boys do start liking girls they will have to be older then this child was that one the spelling be to actually date her. So I guess since what you are saying is 2 of my kids lol have not social skills according to your theory. One thing I lastly want to say....take some time and spend it at a homeschool group activity ....ask the parents to all leave and you alone are with these kids....more of them then not will show you the utmost respect...go to PS and be a sub....you will see more then not the utmost disrespect.
