When did this ''emo'' thing come about? I am 25 and i dont remember hearing about ''emo'' until i was like 20 and it was rare then. Now i see all these kids with really tight jeans on and hair in front of their eyes. Also I hear the crappy music. Why is everyone ''Emo'' these days and why does anyone think its cool?

Y!A, I did some research, found some emo kids and asked them. I told them why I was asking and they were very happy to tell me everything I wanted to know. not every one is emo its mostly preps wanting attention thats made it so wide spread nd emo basically means a emotional the-world-is-out-to-get-me kid, really depressed kinda although there is actaully emos true ones but alot of it is just preps wantin attention most of the times

I think it's the modern goth or punk from yesteryear.

Emo is a label, a stereotype. Emo is a label standing for the word "emotional", which means they think their life is the worst. The "emo" kids, take razors and cut their wrists and show them to all their friends, but now a days, people are pretending to be that stereotype.

You could be also referring to scene which is a wacky style with skinny/tight jeans, headbands, and colorful dyes in their hair.

normally they wear dark clothes, and most times cut their wrists

i do see a lot of it, i think some people just like the look, but they dont cut, there are some real emos that cuz bcuz of depression, but now there's a lot of preps and other types of people pretending to be emo bcuz they want attention

i dont think cutting is cool, but the style is ok, just wouldnt look good on me...

Every generation goes through its weird subcultures or fads. They seem to come full circle. I just wish I had kept all my clothes and shoes from the 60's/70's! It does make you feel a little "old" doesn't it when you find yourself saying" what's the matter with kids today"?lol

an emo is an emotional gothic. Also saying an emo doesnt believ in God is like saying a hispanic doesn't pay taxes or black people are ghetto or that white people are rich snobs. IT'S A STEREOTYPE and those who don't really know what emo's are shouldn't judge them. A kid can be an emo and be any religion or have no religion at all because being an emo isn't a religon and doesn't determine anyone's opinion about God.
