Stay at home moms and employed at home moms...question for you?

I'm asking those women (or men if you want to answer) who stay at home and work (either just raising kids or employed from home) if they find it difficult to 'get ready' when you know you're not leaving the house. Now I'm not talking about being a dirty slob -(I do shower and brush my teeth) :P I'm just talking about dressing nicely and applying your make up and spending a lot of time on your hair. I'm 30, married and have 2 kids. I work from my home while my kids are at school. I don't know if I'm in a 'slump' of just not feeling like it, or if it's just part of being an adult and realizing the importance of everything else and knowing that makeup and hair don't always make the cut, lol.

Stay at home moms and employed at home moms...question for you?

I just started working from home about six months ago, and in that short amount of time I have lost the ability to set any kind of routine for myself. Both my kids are grown (23 and 20), my son doesn't live at home anymore and my daughter is either at college, working or out with her friends... so there's REALLY no need for me to have any kind of routine...because it's just me here. The ONLY time I do my hair and makeup is if I HAVE to leave the house (grocery shopping, errands, etc) and I notice that I have started to feel very unmotivated about EVERYTHING.

I have tried to tell myself that I need to stay motivated about my appearance, but I take my shower and when I go to do my hair and makeup it's like: "What the hell for"? I have been more than slightly embarrassed a couple of times when I've had unexpected guests stop over and I look like I just walked out of a sandstorm or something...not good.

Sounds to me like we just don't feel like it.

I do work from home too. If I cannot find a reason to leave the house, I have a hard time getting dressed, and I never put on make up unless I think I will be meeting potential clients. I should, and oftentimes, look for an excuse to leave the house just to motivate myself.

you are doing good just keep your hair and makeup and your daily chores all done the same looking good and keeping clean are all good for your daily routines

I also work from home and find that I am 'uninspired' to apply make-up or dress in a suit or similar.

I think it's because knowing we don't have to see any-one we tend to be more relaxed about how we look and are more carefree because of that.

If I have an appointment with a customer or potential customer or am going out then yes, I apply make-up and dress appropriately but otherwise you'll see me in my trackies and t-shirt. lol

If your work standard is high that's all you have to worry about.

I'm just a sahm, but I find it tedious to get ready when I do have to go out. Well it might be b/c i'm pregnant also... but it takes so much time. I have to shower everyday.. i have oily hair and it shows if i don't shower... and my hair and make up take another 30-45 mins.. so all together it takes about 1 hour to a hour and a half to just get ready. I don't know why but I just dread having to go through all the motions of getting ready just to be out for an hour or two... lol sometimes i wish i was a guy in that department b/c my husband gets up puts on clothes and is out the door... lol

I apply my make up every day (unless very sick) because otherwise I feel slobby. But after my shower, make up and hair brushing, I put on my sweats and tank top and just do whatever, but make up is a must for me to not feel like a total slob!

I have a day care in my home and it depends on the day how much effort I put into my appearance. I always get a shower and put on clean neat clothes, but sometimes hair and makeup don't get done until later in the day. The mornings are a little crazy and I'm lucky if I get chapstick on some days, but that is what nap time is for, lol. I will take time during the kids' nap to clean up the kitchen then myself so that I don't look disheveled when parents start coming to pick up their kids. It's funny though, I usually over dress when I go out to dinner or out with friends, because I spend my days in casual clothes I guess I try to make up for all the frumpiness when I get out away from kids, lol.

I go to school three days a week and the other days I'm basically a SAHM. I can't stay in sweats or PJs though because I have to take my middle son to preschool but during school breaks I do the same thing. I take care of the kids and house but I will stay in sweats or PJs until about 2 pm but I try to make sure I look pretty when my man gets home from work. But girl, as long as the coochie is clean and the breath is fresh, its all good.

This is really something to ponder about,i work at home and have a 20wks old son to take care of and also a husband who works night and is home all day.I don't wear make-up don't even know how to apply it and don't own one.I would have always loved to dress up daily but cant be bothered. All my husband wants is to see me have my shower twice daily and my hair neatly done up.And that's even a lot of work to get my hair done.

Haha...I ALWAYS find it difficult, it's such a pain. For me,. it all depends on if I know someone will be stopping by or not. I do try to at least look nice on my husbands days off though.

I am 29 with a 19 month old daughter. I quit my job in the last trimester of pregnancy and am a stay at home mommy. For me, I always do my makeup, hair, etc in the morning just because it makes me feel "put together" and ready to start the day...even if I only end up staying at home. I don't know...maybe it's the desire to stilll look good after kids sort of thing. I found that if I stay in my pj's, then i'm in kind of a slump for the day and don't feel like I have alot of energy and don't feel put together and I don't like that for me... :)

I also find myself not getting dressed or wanting to. I am a stay at home mom I have 3 kids 2 are at school. I love being at home and if it is rainy or cold and I don't want to change out of my pj's I don't. It's not being lazy well ok it is. At times I forget how I look when I have to run an errand until I get in the store and see myself..
